Helping Your Veterinarian Help Your Horse

Why would your horse(s) images be read by an Equine Radiologist?

  • Equine diagnostic imaging is an ever-growing field with many different highly specialized technologies now available around the world.  An equine radiologist can help your veterinarian to make sense of it all and apply the information to your specific horse’s situation.

  • Equine radiologists have specialized training in diagnostic imaging and spend their days evaluating radiographs along with many other different modalities, correlating the complex newer technologies with the more traditional technologies like radiographs.  A radiologist can also help with interpretation with radiographs, or in some circumstances ultrasound.

  • Digital image transfer and the internet make all of this possible with relative ease.

What is the process?

  • Your veterinarian will evaluate your horse based on the presenting complaint / problem.

  • Your veterinarian may recommend diagnostic imaging in order to more fully evaluate the region of interest / suspicion, or they can consult with a radiologist to determine which imaging modality is best suited to evaluate the problem.

  • Once imaged, your veterinarian or the imaging center will transfer the images and case information to the radiologist for an opinion.

  • The radiologist then provides a written report to your veterinarian, who then takes that interpretation and makes a plan of action.

FAQ

  • Please discuss this with your veterinarian who performed the workup and imaging on your horse. Your veterinarian will then contact us and submit the images for interpretation.

  • Please contact your veterinarian to discuss or ask any questions regarding your horse's report. Your veterinarian will correlate the imaging findings to his/her exam and will be able to explain their clinical relevance. We are always available to answer any questions that you or your veterinarian may have regarding the report.
